The members of the Alpha Chi National Council recently elected Dr. David Jones, Professor of Psychology and Associate Dean of Faculty at Westminster College, as the national Alpha Chi President at Alpha Chi National Convention.
Alpha Chi is a national college honor society that admits students from all academic disciplines. Membership is limited to the top 10 percent of an institution’s juniors, seniors, and graduate students. Some 300 chapters, located in almost every state and in Puerto Rico, induct more than 12,000 members annually. The Missouri Delta Chapter of Alpha Chi at Westminster College has repeatedly been recognized as one of the top chapters in the nation.
In his first duties in the new role, Jones resided over the National Council meeting and over the convention gala during the national convention, held in Chicago in March. As president, Jones will serve on Alpha Chi’s Executive Committee with the Vice-President and Secretary and Alpha Chi’s Executive Director and Director of Operations.
Jones was first elected to the Alpha Chi National Council in 2009 and re-elected to a second term in 2013. In addition to his involvement in Alpha Chi, Jones serves as a Peer Reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association and as a member of the Higher Learning Commission’s Institutional Actions Council.
His scholarly achievements include two published books, three published contributions to instructor CD-ROMS for psychology texts, six published papers and 30 presentations at professional meetings.
Before coming to Westminster, he was an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Lyon College. Jones holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Southern California.
