Men’s Soccer Success Recognized By City of Fulton With Proclamation, Ranked 20th In NCAA Coaches Poll
The Westminster men’s soccer team was recognized for their successful 2013 season with a Proclamation from the City of Fulton.
The Westminster Blue Jays recorded program history after winning the SLIAC tournament and advancing past the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The team was the first Westminster program to make it past the opening round of the Tournament and the first collegiate team in central Missouri to make it to the Sweet 16 round.
The Blue Jays broke into the national rankings as they finished 20th in the nation in the final NCAA Rankings. The team finished with a 13-9-1 overall record and tied for first in the SLIAC with an 8-1 record. They closed out the 2013 season with a 0-2 loss to the 3rd ranked Loras College in the Sectionals Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Head Coach Andrew Bordelon was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Central Region Coach of the Year. The National Coach of the Year will be decided later in December.
Senior midfielder Michael McDonough was named to the NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team. McDonough was the SLIAC Tournament MVP and an All-Conference Second Team member.
