“You know something is good for you when you positively surprise yourself while doing it. I, for example, could not believe I had gained the skills I had towards the end of the internship. After working with Insurgical for about seven months, I came to realize that the team and I had become professionals in doing research and projecting sales. And that is a cause worth working for,” says Ana Ilievska, one of the three students participating in an internship for a company called Insurgical LLC. Ana is a marketing and international business major at Westminster, and she has found this experience to be very helpful for her future plans and aspirations.
Kyle Klahs, a pre-med major, also found this experience to be life-changing. “The Insurgical internship allowed us the opportunity to explore a facet of healthcare that I, being a pre-med student, was not familiar with. We were able to get hands-on experience with sales and market research and use the knowledge we acquired last semester to contact and present our sales pitch to a CEO of a hospital. The internship allowed for a truly professional experience and an insight into the dynamic field of medical sales,” says Kyle.
Layle Ledbetter, a biology major seeking to go into medical sales, looks at this internship as a confirmation of her aspirations. “This internship has given me some awesome hands on experience in the biomedical sales field that I would not have been able to get many other places. It has definitely helped me to solidify my post graduate plans,” says Layle.
Layle, Kyle, and Ana, all seniors at Westminster College, have participated in this internship with Insurgical for the past two semesters. They have been guided by Dr. Bill Carner, Westminster business and marketing professor, and Westminster alum Frederick Matthews who was generous to give this opportunity to Westminster students.
